![]() ![]() Read more en to my sat-nav "navigator" telling me to take the next left then the next right immediately from an apparent non-existent road on which I am travelling. To keep me interested, at least I can list. I have been given the reason that it relates to licencing of the map supplier with Nissan as the end user. Most of these new 2 lane highways (2 north & 2 south) are not on the Nissan X-Trail mapping. For example, the highway between Brisbane and Newcastle has been getting upgrades for many years. Yes they are the katest version but that version does not reflect the actual maps. Have had many discussions with Nissan dealers about the accuracy and "current-ness" of the sat-nav maps. So, blame the dealer for not explaining to me, but now the system is in fact more detailed and comprehensive even than Google Maps. I went back to the dealer and explained it all to him and his response was to offer me a job (not taken). Even better, as it is a brand new vehicle I apparently have free map updates for two years, in New Zealand at least. Everything was up to date and worked perfectly, so my apologies to Nissan. It didn't take long, and when it was done I went out for a test drive using all the obscure back roads the system had not even shown before. Nothing seemed to be happening for a little while, and then it said on the screen it was updating the map data in the car's GPS unit. ![]() I told it to update, and then put the updated USB drive into the USB port in the car. I then downloaded and installed a small utility program on my computer which read the USB drive data and cheerfully informed me I had an update available for free. Briefly I put a blank USB flash drive into the port in the car, and found a deeply buried menu item to download the map data to the USB drive. The dealer had not explained to me how to update the map data, and I found out by digging around on the inter. Well, here I am back again with a red face this time to explain how I fixed my GPS system. This sort of thing is basic bread and butter stuff for Google Maps and even Apple Maps, so why on earth can't Nissan stick to building cars, which they do really well, and license the navigation stuff from those who know what they are doing with it? I absolutely love my new Qashqai, but all I can say is thank goodness for Android Auto! Today I was waiting to pull out into traffic on a busy secondary road and the Nissan's nav system showed me in the middle of an empty paddock for heaven's sake. ![]() The saddest thing was that I had Google Maps running on my phone and that quickly recalculated my route and navigated me flawlessly via my alternative route, rather thoughtfully mentioning various touristy spots along the way in case I was interested. It did that for the entire journey obviously knowing nothing of the alternative route. However I wanted to take the scenic route and once off the main road it kept demanding. The other day I tried it to navigate to a city about 180 km away and it set up the route using the main road. When it does plan a route it seems to insist on the most amazing round-about ways. Spectacularly out of date, doesn't even know about anything but main roads in my rural area. However I cannot believe the built in nav system. Less than two weeks since purchasing my new 2020 Qashqai and the vehicle itself is simply brilliant. Purchased in January 2021 at Nissan Dealers. New Navman will cost about $170 has lifetime Monthly Map Updates and TMC. I have a an older navman but no longer get TMC data (its interesting to note that the Nissan gets TMC). Now only want to take me 712kms for the 507km trip.īuying myself a new Navman. Well, just did a new map update and now have 2020 Sept Update (only 9 months old). Was trying to take me to Renmark - Broken Hill - Mildura - Balranald still some 1280kms. Read more Looked at the route and it was trying to take me to Broken Hill - Mildura - Balranald.Īdded a way point for Renmark distance increased? The Sat-Nav said I still had just under 1300km to go?. Now all I have to do if follow A32 from my place to Balranald - trip distance is 507km. I ignored it and kept going, turn left issued again.Īfter 30Kms of this happening I stopped at next town and looked at the Trip details. Punched in trip details (my place - Balranald) and hit the main road next to my place. In March (2021) headed off to catch up with friends in Snowy Mountains. ![]()
